Man Arrested For Narcotics, Weapons Charges After Crashing Car Into Railroad Turntable Ditch

The Carson City Sheriff's Office says a man was arrested for narcotics and weapons related charges on Thursday.

Officials said the Special Enforcement Team stopped a driver for traffic charges near the entrance of the Rail Road Museum on Carson Street and Fairview Drive.

Deputies made contact with the driver and passengers, who refused to exit the car.

Officials said the driver fled the area driving recklessly through the parking lot of the museum.

They said the suspect tried to cross the railroad tracks and crashed into the railroad turntable ditch.

The driver, identified as Robert Angel Gonzales, ran from the scene with a handgun. He was taken into custody shortly after that.

Drugs were found in his pocket. His charges include possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, obstructing a peace officer, evading, prohibited person in possession of a handgun, parole and probation violation, resisting a peace officer and traffic charges.
