A 37 year old man was found dead at the Black Rock Hot Springs, per Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO.) Foul play is not suspected.
Black Rock Hot Springs is approximately 80 miles north east of Gerlach within Humboldt County.
HCSO says it was reported to them that 37 year old Stephen Busch Shelby, of Truckee, California had gone into the hot spring in the morning of October 31st. A group of camp mates and passerby’s found the body floating face down three hours later.
Officials say the water was 120 degrees Fahrenheit.
The group pulled Shelby out of the water and tried to give him CPR but it didn't work. Officials say because of the remote location and lack of cell phone service, the group had to travel a far to call dispatch.
HCSO deputies along with Rangers from the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) responded and upon arrival, Shelby was pronounced deceased at 5:34 p.m.
Crews took Shelby to the Washoe County Medical Examiner’s Office where he's scheduled for an autopsy.
This is an open investigation and detectives are looking at several factors that may have contributed to cause of death, but foul play is not suspected.
