Police say a man suffered serious injuries after he was struck by a Union Pacific train in downtown Reno on Wednesday morning.
The accident happened just before 9:45 a.m. near Record Street.
Police say when Reno Police, Fire and REMSA personnel arrived on scene they found a 53-year-old man underneath the train who had suffered severe injuries to his body.Â
The man was taken to Renown Regional Medical Center where he is currently listed in serious condition.
Police say officers spoke with witnesses who stated the man appeared to be playing chicken with the train, and that several people tried to pull him off the tracks. Even though the train was traveling slowly, the conductor could not get the train to stop before striking the man.Â
They say it appears that the pedestrian was most likely intoxicated at the time of the accident.
