Memorial Event For Former Sparks Mayor Ron Smith This Saturday

The City of Sparks is planning a memorial event for former Mayor Ron Smith this Saturday on September 12 at the Nevada Veterans Memorial Plaza at the Sparks Marina.

The city is encouraging visitors to stop by any time between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. to pay respects, share memories, leave cards and messages for Smith's family and donate to the Nevada Veterans Memorial Plaza Project if desired.

Social distancing and masks will be required.

The parking lot directly in front of the memorial plaza, adjacent to the restrooms and concession building at the Sparks Marina Park will be closed to allow for social distancing at the event.

The city is not planning for participatory event with speakers or a specific gathering time.

Once restrictions have lifted, a larger celebration of life for Smith will be planned.
