Men's Basketball Celebration Dinner Set for May 6

Fans are invited to celebrate the University of Nevada men's basketball team's season on May 6 and meet new Wolf Pack head coach Steve Alford at the Reno Ballroom.  The cost for the dinner is $100 and all registration will be online at NevadaWolfPack.com/HoopsDinner with a deadline of May 2. 

For preferred seating you may reserve a table of 10 for $500 and each person at the table is also required to have a ticket.  The rest of the venue will be open seating.  Doors open at 6 p.m. with dinner being served at 6:30 p.m.   

 

Alford, a highly successful coach with 11 NCAA Tournament berths and four Sweet 16 appearances, has signed a 10-year deal to lead Nevada. He is the 19th coach in the history of the Nevada program.  Alford has a career record of 587-298 (.663) in 28 seasons as a collegiate head coach and is 509-269 in 24 seasons as a Division I head coach.  With Division I stops at Missouri State, Iowa, New Mexico and UCLA, his teams have averaged 21 wins per year with only two losing seasons.

Led by seven seniors the Wolf Pack captured a third-consecutive Mountain West regular season title and played in a third consecutive NCAA Tournament.  The Pack tied the school record with 29 wins for the second year in a row and tied the school record with 18 consecutive home victories.

Caleb Martin and Jordan Caroline were each named to the All-MW first team while Cody Martin was a third team selection.  All three were selected to the MW Defensive team.  Junior Jazz Johnson was named the Sixth Man of the Year.

Caleb Martin became the Pack’s first preseason All-America selection being named to the Associated Press and ESPN teams.  He as also earned postseason AP honorable mention All-America honors for the second time.  A finalist for the Julius Erving award he was also named to the NABC, Wooden, Naismith and Lute Olsen Award watch lists.  He ended his Pack career ranked 16th on the all-time scoring list with 1,334 points.  The NABC selected him as their District 17 Player of the Year and to their first team.

Caroline leaves the Pack ranked fifth in Nevada history with 1,742 points and 958 rebounds. The 958 rebounds is a MW record as are his 45 career double-doubles.  He earned first-team All-NABC honors and was the MW Player of the Week four times his senior year and seven times in his Pack career.  Additional honors included being named to the Oscar Robertson and Wooden Award watch lists.

Cody Martin was a top 10 finalist for the Bob Couzy Award.  He was also on the Wooden Award watch list.  He ended his college career with 1,178 points with 914 coming in his two seasons at Nevada.
