UPDATE: The Eldorado County Sheriff's Office has released new information on the person who went missing in Lake Tahoe on Sunday.
They said 32-year-old Chaitanya Datla from Cameron Park was on a rental boat with family members when Datla jumped into the water without a life vest.
While he was swimming, the boat floated away from him and family members on board called the 911 when he disappeared under the surface of the water.
The South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) was originally called in an attempt to locate the victim. The United States Coast Guard also deployed a boat to search the area. The area of the lake they were searching has a depth of 1,100 feet and no signs of life were found.
The following morning Eldorado County Sheriff's Office Dive team along with the Coast Guard, SLTPD and Douglas County Sheriff's Office searched the same area and did not locate Datla. He is still listed as a missing person at this time and the investigation is being conducted by SLTPD.
