You can celebrate National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day on Saturday by adopting a pet of your own.Â
Local pet store, Pet Station is teaming up with animal shelters in the area to help provide you with free food for three months if you bring home a furry friend.Â
Marshall Grattan, the owner of Pet Station said, "We have always tried to help with shelters and do everything we can for them. And an opportunity came up for this particular shelter day, to be able to offer three months of food for everyone who adopted a pet."
Participating Shelters:Â
- The SPCA of Northern Nevada
- The Nevada Humane Society
- Pet Network Humane SocietyÂ
Michelle Perez, with the Nevada Humane Society said, "Adopting a pet is sometimes a big expense. And people are kind of turned off by that so in addition to having lowered adoption fees, as we normally do, we are offering the pet food as just an extra incentive.">
Some shelters are at full capacity. They need to place animals with loving owners to free up space for other homeless pets.Â
"We have a lot of different cats and dogs, depending on your lifestyle and depending on how your home life is. We have active, shy dogs, older cats, younger cats, so there's a variety of love here for every kind of household and every kind of family," said Perez.Â
You can visit any of the local shelters we mentioned to be part of National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day on April 30.Â
