The Nevada Department of Transportation has started work on enhancing U.S. Highway 50 in the Cave Rock area.
During construction, traffic will be down to one lane through the eastbound tunnel with possible delays due to reduced speed limits.
When finished, the existing tunnel will be extended to catch rocks before they hit the roadway, and lighting will be added to increase visibility.
The approximately $6 million project will continue through fall of 2016.
