This is the final week to get health insurance coverage for 2016 through the Affordable Care Act. The deadline is this Sunday. And unlike past years, there is no plan to extend the deadline this time.
It’s important to know that if you miss this deadline, you’ll likely have to wait another year to enroll, and you may have to pay a penalty when you file your federal income taxes.
There are several ways to get enrolled and they are all free of charge. Begin by visiting https://www.nevadahealthlink.com/
Janel Davis with Silver State Health Insurance Exchange explains, You can go directly to a carrier and those are also on our website. You can call our call center, you can email us or you can call a broker, you can put in a zip code in our in person assistance tool, find a broker in your area and make an appointment.”
Insurance brokers throughout Northern Nevada are working extended hours to help clients get signed up. Many offices have bilingual staff to help Spanish speakers. Rebecca Montero owns RLM Affordable Health Care Pros in Carson City and says a broker can make the process a lot easier and make sure you get the plan that's right for you
“Get the help, find out what counts as income, what's best in your circumstance, if you have insurance provided through your employer, is it best to have your children on there or can you get a private policy cheaper. These are the kinds of questions that the average consumer needs to know,” says Montero.
