A native northern Nevadan has returned home to launch a new business and he's taking cues from other local entrepreneurs including his own dad...who's been part of the Reno landscape since the 1970's.

Nathan Meckley likes talking about the production and manufacturing of clothes - something he fell in love after years of working on the retail side of the apparel industry on the east and west coasts.

He came back here to Reno, his hometown, to launch his own company, called 7th and Leroy. Clothes are made in Los Angeles, but they're designed for the outdoors. “I want people to get out and paddle board and hike and camp, we snowboard, and all of our apparel can fit all of those different segments,” says Meckley.

Nathan and his friends have put the new line of clothes to the test.

"I use all the base layers when I go snowboarding,” says John Von Schimmelmann. “It's the warmest stuff I've used. It's also breathable so you're not sweating when you get too hot."

Friend Jordan Luhrs wears several pieces from the line like "leggings, the shirts, the underwear - all work really well. I work out a lot; run, wrestling, grappling."

And while starting a new business is challenging, you could say Meckley's love of entrepreneurship is in his blood. "My dad and the Springers helped start - they opened - Moana Nursery, I believe it was back in the 70's." His dad recently retired after running other successful landscaping businesses for decades.

Nathan says his dad was always a coach and inspiration - and still is. “He lets me fail - because I need to, but, he's always there to pick me up and tell me what I need to fix."

Meckley also reconnected with childhood friend Brian Williams, founder of Think Kindness, who is helping with ways the new business can give back. "He's starting a business that has kindness and giving back at its core, from the foundation,” says Williams

Some of the proceeds from 7th and Leroy clothing line will go to charities to save Lake Tahoe.

"We wanna figure out how we can really impact and benefit Lake Tahoe and Nevada and Reno," says Nathan.
