Airport travel can be a pain over holiday weekends. But the Reno Tahoe Airport Authority (RTAA) says this year is expected to be just as busy as last year.

They expect 16,000 passengers over the 6th and 7th of July.

To put those numbers into perspective, they have 10,000 to 12,000 passengers on typical days.

Nicolle Staten, the Public Affairs Manager for the Reno Tahoe Airport Authority, says, "We know every year we're going to be busy during this time. We look at last year and we compare so we can be ready for everybody. We are looking at pretty much the same amount of travelers as last year, so not a big increase."

During holiday weekends such as this one, the airport makes sure they staff up and have therapy dogs around the airport ready to give you comfort.

As a reminder, Real IDs are in effect, so if you don't have one, you should bring your passport with you, or else TSA may give you additional screening and delay your time getting through security.

You'll also want to arrive early to make sure you stay on time.

There has also been a lot of construction around the airport, but RTAA says there aren't any projects going on right now that will impact passengers.

Staten goes on to explain, "You're going to start seeing some construction, but nothing too impactful at this time. Luckily our next project is also going to be our concourses, so starting in 2026, you're going to start seeing construction, but nothing too big happening right now."

We also asked some passengers passing through the airport what their plans for the weekend were.

Jordan Davis and Kylie Rowe tell us their plans: "We're heading to Utah; we're going to go to Stadium of Fire Rascal Flatts, so we're excited. You took all the words out of me! I didn't even get a chance; we are that excited for this trip! We even dressed the part."

Gavin and Griffin Vernon-Smith tell us about their plan to go to Hawaii: "I'm going to get surfing lessons on my birthday, which is on July 8th, and we're also traveling for the 4th of July, too."

Jordan Davis and Kylie Rowe go on to say, "We're going to my sister's house. We're so excited to see the family and see the cousins. Papa will be there. We're excited for the BBQ, and we're excited to go get into some water and do some fun 4th of July celebrations."

They also told us a little about their experience getting to the airport: "It was busy driving here to the airport. We got through the lines pretty quick, and so now we just have to make that flight."
