The City of Reno is warning people to protect their homes for Arson Awareness Week.

The Reno Fire Department's Boston is the only accelerant dog in the whole region and can smell ignitable liquids.

They recommend making sure your home doesn't have any easy opportunities for an arsonist to take advantage of.

"Keep the property around you free of any garbage, free of any combustible debris. Make sure you're not stacking anything by the house. Keep things well lit, and you want to make sure there's not anywhere on your property an arsonist can hide,” says Trey Palmer, City of Reno Fire Marshal.

The City of Reno is investigating eight arson fires set on April 30th and May 1st.

They suspect the same person may be responsible for all of them.

If you know anything that can help investigators, call the fire department at 775-334-2300.
