The Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe (HSTT) is inviting the community to visit the shelter and meet animals available for adoption in recognition of National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day, which takes place on April 30. Â
HSTT reminds the public that the shelter houses animals "of every type, size, age and personality, all waiting for loving and permanent homes."
Staff and volunteers are available to share the background and personalities of the pets currently in their care.
For those unable to adopt, there are additional ways to support homeless pets in the community:
- Volunteer at the shelter or at community events
- Temporarily foster a pet until it finds a permanent home
- Support Thrifty Tails Boutique, where "100% of the net proceeds benefit shelter animals"
"Every contribution makes a significant difference in helping homeless pets find their way to loving families," HSTT states.
National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day was established to raise awareness about the critical need for pet adoption in shelters across the country.
Each year, millions of pets enter shelters nationwide, and hundreds of thousands are never adopted.
The Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe is located at 10961 Stevens Lane in Truckee and is open Monday through Saturday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
