According to a May 16, Facebook post by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW), a bear cub was rescued from a soccer net at a Kings Beach park early on the morning of May 15.

CDFW stated that when their team arrived, they found the cub entangled in the net and closely guarded by its protective mama bear.

CDFW Wildlife Officers and Biologists worked together to safely loosen the net while ensuring the mama bear maintained a safe distance.

The agency reported that the cub was freed in just over five minutes.

After being released, the cub quickly climbed a nearby tree, reunited briefly with its mama bear, and the two then peacefully returned to the wild.

In their post, the CDFW thanked California State Parks for assisting with what it described as "a calm and coordinated response."
