Five people suffered major injuries after a head-on crash on SR 89 north of Picketts Junction early Monday morning. 

CHP says the crash happened around 8:15 a.m. when a 2003 Mazda, heading south on SR 89, hit a 2003 Chevy Tahoe head-on after sliding due to ice on the roadway.

CHP says an additional two people suffered minor injuries.  

Everyone was transported to Barton Memorial Hospital.
