The Forest Service is warning skiers to be careful in forested areas.
Deep snow can cause tree wells hollowed out areas around a tree surrounded by deep snow.
Skiers that get too close could fall into the wells, get stuck and suffocate.
They recommend avoiding tree wells, carrying safety equipment including a shovel, probe, whistle and making sure to keep your partner in sight.
They say, if a tree well accident does occur, call for help immediately.
