A Reno man faces up to 20 years in prison after admitting to robbing a bank and frightening a teller into handing over money.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Nevada, Jack Van Eaton Jr. pleaded guilty to one count of bank robbery in connection with a May 7, 2026, robbery at the U.S. Bank on South Virginia Street.
According to court documents, Van Eaton entered a bank and handed a teller a note demanding money. The note read, “ROBBERY PUT 100’s AND FIFTY’s IN THE BAG AND YOU WON’T GET HURT.”
Fearing for their safety, the teller emptied the cash from the drawer and handed it to Van Eaton, who then fled on foot.
Van Eaton faces a maximum statutory penalty of 20 years in prison. His sentencing is scheduled for Feb. 1, 2027.
The FBI investigated the robbery.
A 79-year-old man was arrested on Thursday evening after a bank robbery in downtown Reno on Thursday morning.
