North Lake Tahoe firefighters battled a fire early Thursday morning that started in a garage before spreading to a home and the surrounding wildland.
Initially, firefighters thought the homeowners were trapped inside, but later discovered they were able to escape and were safe with neighbors, according to a post on Facebook from the North Tahoe Fire Protection District.
CalFire units were dispatched to help due to the wildland fire, and crews were able to knock down most of the outside fire and enter the home.
The fire was contained to the house where it began and was kept from spreading further into the surrounding wildland by excellent defensible space by the homeowner, according to the NTFPD.
