The Plumas County Sheriff's Office is investigating after human remains were found in a remote area northeast of Cromberg, California on Friday.

The remains were found by workers for a private logging company, according to a release.

Two detectives were dispatched to the scene and confirmed the presence of the remains and that they were human.

The remains were unable to be identified due to their advanced state of decomposition.

Further forensic examination, including DNA analysis and other investigative methods, will be required before any confirmation can be made, according to the release.

PCSO will work with forensic experts to gather additional information.
