Original Story (5/24/2025, 3:40 p.m.):

The Placer County Sheriff's Office (PCSO) is currently in the middle of a search for a kayaker who went missing on Thursday night.

According to a post on the PCSO Facebook page, on Thursday night around 7:45 p.m., a couple of men in kayaks were fishing in the Hell Hole reservoir when one of the men fell into the water.

Hell Hole reservoir is located off of McKinstry Peak, west of Homewood near Lake Tahoe.

The second man went into the water to attempt to help the first man, and both started swimming towards shore.

The man who initially fell into the water made it to the shore, but the second man never resurfaced.

The man who made it to shore searched around for anyone to help him call 911, and wasn't able to receive help until around 8:45 a.m. Friday morning.

This is a developing story - we will provide updates as we receive them.
