The Forest Service plans to continue prescribed burns in El Dorado County, weather permitting.Â
Crews plan to burn in areas near Luther Pass (SR 89) - through Thursday.Â
These areas will be closed to the public for several days; this is due to public safety.
Residents may notice smoke during the burns. Officials recommend checking AirNow online or via its app for air quality updates.
Weather conditions will be evaluated in the hours before a burn begins, and activities may be canceled if conditions are not favorable.
People can stay informed about scheduled burns through the Forest Service website, social media channels, and the Tahoe Fire & Fuels Team Prescribed Fire Map.Â
According to the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit, prescribed fires to help reduce overgrown vegetation to help protect local communities, infrastructure and natural resources from wildfires.
