The Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District has lowered its flags to half-staff until sunset on May 11 in honor of a South Lake Tahoe firefighter who died earlier this month.

Lake Valley Fire Engineer Neil Schnaible passed away on May 4 after suffering from a medical emergency while on duty in April.

"Our thoughts are with Engineer Schnaible’s family, friends, and the entire Lake Valley Fire family during this difficult time," said a post from the TDFPD on Facebook. "Rest easy, Engineer Schnaible. Your service and legacy will not be forgotten."

A South Lake Tahoe firefighter passed away today after suffering from a medical emergency while on duty late last month.

The Lake Valley Fire Protection District says fire engineer Neil Schnaible served the community of South Lake Tahoe with honor, distinction, and unwavering dedication.

The flag at the district headquarters will be flown at half-staff in his honor.

Officials say memorial service information will be announced when it becomes available.
