A series of free events is giving older adults in Reno a chance to connect, enjoy a treat, and take care of an important task at the same time.
The City of Reno is hosting ice cream socials throughout May in recognition of Older Americans Month, offering free ice cream along with complimentary paper shredding services.
Ice cream will be provided by Super Swirl, while shredding services are sponsored by AARP and American Document Destruction.
“I'm looking forward to the ice cream socials this month, including in Ward 4, as part of the City’s ongoing effort to support our senior community,” said Ward 4 Councilmember Meghan Ebert. “These activities provide important opportunities for socialization in a fun and engaging way, as well as a chance to get rid of unwanted documents securely, thanks to the free paper shredding services available.”
The events are scheduled at three locations across the city:
May 7 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Paradise Park Activity Center, 2745 Elementary Drive
May 14 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Dorothy McAlinden Park, 14000 Stead Boulevard
May 21 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Neil Road Recreation Center, 3925 Neil Road
City officials say the events are designed to create opportunities for seniors to gather, socialize, and access helpful services in a relaxed setting.
