The Douglas County Sheriff's Office is warning of a phone scam targeting local residents.
In a post on social media, the Sheriff's Office says victims have gotten calls that appear to be from a DCSO phone number.
The person calling tells the victim they failed to show up for jury duty and need to pay money to avoid a warrant or arrest.
In their post, the Sheriff's Office says they never accept money over the phone for any fines and never ask for gift cards or cryptocurrency as payment.
They advise people that if they receive a call from the DCSO they should end the call immediately, call (775) 782-5126 and ask to speak with a deputy for verification of the caller's identity.
