Regional authorities are investigating after Elko Police officers shot and killed a man early Wednesday evening.
Elko Police say the incident started around 5 p.m. when an officer heard a woman being hit - when he tried to intervene, the suspect pushed the victim from a car and a pursuit ensued after nearly hitting the officer with the car.
Police say the suspect, James Ryan, then pointed a rifle at responding officers and SWAT and negotiators were called in.
Police say after several hours of negotiations, Ryan got out of the car and was shot and killed by SWAT.
Washoe County, Reno, and Sparks are now conducting the investigation.
The involved officers were placed on administrative leave.
After the investigation, the case will be forwarded to Elko County District Attorney's Office for review.
Elko Police say an internal investigation will also be conducted.
