Wednesday, August 8th is the first night of Hot August Nights drag racing.
It is a huge family friendly event, just don't forget your earplugs because it can get pretty loud.
Cars will be racing from 6 p.m. to midnight.
The event goes until Saturday. Wednesday and Thursday night will be open for anyone with any car to participate, whether you're in the car show or not. But Friday and Saturday drag racing will be for cars from 1979 and older.
David Schnepp, the Chairmen of the Drag Races for Hot August Nights lays out the rules:
Awards and prizes will be handed out for what is closest to a "trip-zip light" and for whoever is closest to 5.00 seconds without going faster.
He says they started racing at the Nugget in 2010 and have 300 to 500 people a night watching the event.
"Drag races are very popular among car people, especially those in attendance for Hot August Nights," said Schnepp. "They're all car people so everybody who is anybody has done or heard of drag racing on way or another."
He also mentions that they follow all the same procedures as an NHRH track, so when you come to experience this, you're experiencing the real deal.
"You're getting up close and personal at a regular NHRH race per say," he said. "You're about 35 to 45 feet away spectating from the wall. Right now, you're about 8 feet away from the wall so you're as close as you're ever going to be to cars racing down the track."
Not to mention the track is about 330 feet long.
Tyler Kirby, who's on his 4th season of drag racing says "It's a lot of fun that's why I do it, I've been drag racing for years and years and found a place I can come out and play get involved."
If you do come to this event, you can expect a lot of noise, a lot of smoke and a lot of fast cars.
