NV Energy will begin an overhead electric infrastructure project in the Chimney Peak area within the Humbolt-Toiyabe National Forest, about three miles south of Verdi.
Work begins on August 10th and is expected to continue through October.
The project is designed to support efforts to reduce wildfire risk and strengthen the electric system.
Those traveling through the area may encounter construction crews, utility vehicles and heavy equipment. NV Energy has released some safety guidelines:
- Be alert for construction crews, utility vehicles and heavy equipment operating on and near roadways.
- Expect occasional traffic delays as equipment is moved and work is performed safely.
- Follow all posted signs and directions from project personnel.
- Do not enter active work zones unless directed by authorized personnel.
- Maintain a safe distance from construction activity and equipment.
Helicopters may be visible transporting poles to the project area.
