As the government shutdown reaches day 38, there are no signs of resolution despite Democrats proposing a compromise.Â
The shutdown is affecting federal employees and those employed by the FAA, who say flights are being cancelled at 40 of the major airports across the country.Â
On Friday at Reno-Tahoe International Airport, we spoke with travelers who say their flights and connections were not directly impacted by the cancellations, but the uncertainty added stress to their travels.Â
"I was slightly worried, but I understand that it happened in the bigger airports around the country, not so much the three smaller ones I arrived to, but I checked," said Darrell Burnett.Â
"I'm already planning on being delayed because I'm going back on Sunday, and as you know, Sunday's one of the biggest days to fly out or in anywhere you're going," said Pete Trevino.Â
"It makes it scary, even though everything went smoothly for me today. But just having to pay attention, and I know people all over the country are affected by it," said Katie Kandarian.Â
The airport authority told us that RNO saw 12 cancellations today and multiple delays. They add that it is around 9% of their total commercial arrivals and departures.Â
"That's a much higher number than we were anticipating. It was supposed to be gradual. So, we were anticipating 4%, 5%, something like that. 9% is really huge," said Nicolle Staten, Reno Tahoe Airport Authority.Â
Staten says with the end of the shutdown still being unknown and carrying into November, those with flights scheduled should be prepared for longer security lines and possible flight disruptions.Â
"Work directly with your airline, that's very important, they're the ones that can find you different options, be flexible with you, get you refunds if you need it," she said.
