The community is joining the City of Sparks for the Lizzy Hammond 5k run/walk on November 5.

It's happening at the Sparks Marina until 3 p.m.

The Lizzy Hammond Foundation was founded after Lizzy died in a tragic bounce house incident in 2019 when she was 9 years old.

That day, Lizzy was playing in a bounce house at a friend’s birthday party in South Reno when the bounce house, filled with several children inside, was swept up by a gust of wind. Lizzy was seriously injured and days later passed away from her injuries.

Lizzy's parents say their mission is to spread awareness of the dangers of bounce houses and educate parents on the importance of following all safety measures when using them.
