Six people were arrested over the course of an investigation by the Lyon County Sheriff's Office Special Investigations Unit into a stolen handgun from an elderly victim.

On January 13 the Special Investigations Unit launched their investigation, according to a release from the Sheriff's Office.

Over the course of a two-day investigation detectives arrested several people for active warrants, possession of controlled substances, and other offenses.

The primary suspect in the theft of the gun was found and arrested on January 14.

A search warrant at a home in Stagecoach led to the recovery of the stolen handgun. Nine additional guns were also found, as well as two people with outstanding felony arrest warrants who were hiding.

Over the course of the investigation, six people were arrested.

Those arrested include the following.

  • 36-year-old Matthew Cook of Carson City is charged with being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm, grand larceny of a firearm, and transfer of a firearm to a prohibited possessor.
  • 43-year-old George Shepard of Stagecoach is charged with seven counts of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a firearm without a serial number, possession of a silencer, possession of parts to modify semi-automatic firearms, possession of a short-barreled shotgun and violating the conditions of parole or probation.
  • 41-year-old Eric Shepard of Stagecoach was arrested as a fugitive from justice with felony warrants from Idaho and Minnesota for drug possession as well as for obstructing/resisting.
  • 43-year-old Johnathan Wilson of Stagecoach was arrested for failure to appear, malicious killing of a wild horse, torture/kill an animal, and obstructing/resisting.
  • 41-year-old Sharla Smith of Silver Springs was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, destroy/conceal evidence, and driving on a suspended license.
  • 26-year-old Matthew Treanor of Stagecoach was arrested on a misdemeanor citation of failure to appear on a traffic citation.
