The vote count in Washoe County continues, with mail ballots and some election day votes still needing to be tabulated.
Polls closed across Nevada at 7 p.m. Tuesday night. The county reports the final Washoe voter cast their ballot around 9:35 p.m.
So far, Washoe County Communications Manager Bethany Drysdale says there’s been no major issues with the vote count, and all that’s left is the last little bit.
“We really just have what was delivered in the mail and then the ballots that came in from the later vote centers last night,” Drysdale says. “We have just over about 15,000 mail ballots to process."
Reception to the new ballot marking devices remained positive.
Drysdale says people voted in person and by drop off about the same. The Nevada Secretary of State reports over 35,000 Washoe County voters cast their ballots in person.
Washoe County launched the "Don’t Wait Washoe" campaign to encourage early voting. Drysdale says the early returns are promising.
“We've seen a really smooth process so far,” she says. “It's actually been really encouraging. We saw people dropping off their mail ballots early, which is what we were asking the community to do. So we're really happy about that."
While a good chunk of the vote is tabulated, local results remain unofficial for more than a week.
“We can still receive ballots for a couple more days, and then we have to do the signature verification,” Drysdale says. “So just be patient. We will have final results at the canvass of the vote on the 13th.”
The deadline for ballot curing is November 9th at 5 p.m. If you’d like to learn more, click here.
