The Northern Nevada Public Health Air Quality Management Division issued an air quality alert on Monday after ozone levels in Reno and Sparks reached unhealthy levels for sensitive groups.

The most recent hourly estimate at 1 p.m. showed ozone reaching 101 AQI, which falls into the “Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups” category.

Officials advised people to monitor changing conditions and take precautions based on their health conditions. Active children and adults, along with people with lung disease such as asthma, were urged to reduce prolonged or heavy outdoor exertion.

The alert noted that AirNow data are considered preliminary and that errors can occur because of real-time data collection and processing.
