Angel Lake Campground and Day Use Area will close for the season on Tuesday, September 8, as crews get ready to begin construction on a new Angel Lake Dam.
The closure will give crews room to start work on the long-awaited project, which is intended to improve the lake's infrastructure and long-term safety for visitors.
The new dam is being designed to provide more reliable lake infrastructure and safe water storage for years to come. The project also includes changes aimed at improving recreation at Angel Lake.
Once construction is finished, the area is expected to have expanded shoreline access, improved fishing conditions, and more room to launch non-motorized watercraft, including kayaks and paddleboards.
“We understand how important Angel Lake is to our local community and visitors,” said Wendy Markham, Deputy District Ranger for the Mountain City-Ruby Mountains-Jarbidge Ranger District. “Improving the safety and stability of the dam is our top priority, and we’re excited that this project will also create new recreational benefits. These upgrades will support safer, more enjoyable experiences for the public well into the future.”
Construction is expected to continue through the fall season. The Forest Service said it will provide updates as the work moves forward and is encouraging visitors to visit other recreation sites in the area while Angel Lake is closed.
