A Reno man accused in a stabbing investigation surrendered peacefully after a several-hour standoff at a northwest Reno home, where officers later recovered seven guns, police said.
The Reno Police Department said officers first responded on May 2 to an address on Clear Acre Lane after receiving information that Adam Barton was armed with a concealed gun. When officers arrived, Barton fled into a nearby home and could not be contacted.
Over the following several days, officers responded to multiple calls involving Barton at the same home, but attempts to contact him were unsuccessful.
On May 7, officers responded to a local hospital after a man arrived with stab wounds. Investigators determined Barton allegedly stabbed the man during an incident at the Clear Acre Lane home. Police said the victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was treated and released from the hospital.
Because of the violent nature of the incident and information indicating Barton was armed, detectives with the Reno-Sparks Regional Intelligence Services Crime Gun Intelligence Center took over the investigation. The task force includes personnel from the Reno Police Department, Sparks Police Department, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Guns, and Explosives.
Detectives obtained a search warrant for the home. With assistance from the Reno Police Department SWAT Team, crisis negotiators, the RAPTOR Drone Program, and the K9 Unit, officers executed the warrant and surrounded the home.
After several hours, Barton surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident, police said. Officers recovered seven guns from the home during the investigation.
Barton was arrested on charges of prohibited person in possession of a gun and battery with a deadly weapon.
Police credited patrol officers, detectives, SWAT personnel, negotiators, the RAPTOR Drone Program, K9 officers, and regional law enforcement partners for helping bring the incident to a safe resolution.
