The Bureau of Land Management has temporarily closed public lands within a 10-mile radius of Moon Rocks as wildland fire operations continue at the North Reno Recreation Area.
The closure applies to all public lands in the area, and camping is also prohibited. The restrictions are intended to protect public health and safety while allowing wildland fire operations to continue safely and efficiently.
Only BLM personnel and essential fire, law enforcement, and emergency medical services personnel will be allowed into the area during operations. Members of the public may enter only if they are properly escorted by BLM personnel under the closure order.
The North Reno Recreation Area covers about 19,050 acres of public land, including the Dogskin Mountains, portions of an area known as Hungry Valley and the Moon Rocks play area.
BLM said its priority, along with its partners, is to conduct safe and efficient wildland fire operations while protecting human health and safety. The Division said it is using current firefighting staff, techniques, and equipment to meet its fire response and safety objectives.
