For some people, Memorial Day weekend is the holiday that kicks off camping for the summer season.

Some campgrounds are expecting to be full this weekend, including Washoe Lake State Park.

One couple from Sun Valley says they do dozens of different camping trips every year; however, they will always make sure their first trip is somewhat close to home to ensure they're prepared for the big trips.

Randy Siver, the husband, says, "You want to go someplace fairly nearby so when you start to open the trailer up and get all the systems working, whether it's the pump or electrical system, if there's some problem then you can just drive to town and get what you need to fix it."

Siver and his wife say this is one of their favorite campgrounds because it has great views and is quiet.

Washoe Lake State Park has a few events this weekend for families to join, such as their night hike Saturday at 8:30 p.m. and a plant walk Sunday morning at 10:00 a.m.

The park interpreter, Kim Zuch, says they're expecting the park to be pretty busy, especially since the Davis Creek campground is closed this entire year due to last year's fire.

She wants to remind everyone the importance of following fire safety rules: "We do a lot of fires, only in the fire rings. Our camp hosts have firewood for sale for a donation, or you can bring your own firewood. We don't want fireworks at all and if the wind picks up then we definitely don't want people doing fires."

Zuch says you should also keep water and a shovel available at all times to safely put out a fire.

She also asks that campers follow other general rules such as keeping pets on leashes and respecting quiet hours every night from 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.
