Officials with Carson City are warning residents of a scam that's been going on throughout the year, regarding fraudulent invoices.
A rep with the city says that they have encountered emails with falsified documents and fake invoices meant to trick residents to pay bills that aren't real.
In the scams, fraudsters will pose as members of Carson City staff, attaching invoices to the email and asking for a payment via wire transfer.
According to Community Development Director Hope Sullivan, "We will never ask anyone to wire funds to an account. The invoices are fraudulent. If you are uncertain as to the legitimacy of an invoice, please call the office at (775) 887-2180."
The city says they've never asked for wire transfers for bill payment.
