Chains or snow tires are required for all vehicles on U.S. 395 in Reno-Sparks as of 8 p.m. Tuesday night. Four-wheel drive is not required at this time.

2 News Nevada spoke to some drivers about how they're braving the storm in the North Valleys.

"It's just making sure you're taking your precautions. Obviously, driving slow on the roads and getting from point A to point B," said Brayan Romero.

A snowplow driver said he's been clearing off the roads starting around 4 a.m. Tuesday morning.

"The problem is when it's frozen, it's going to be crazy for drivers," said Roberto Loaisiga, who works for Green Diamond Landscaping.

The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) only recommends necessary travel during winter weather. Before you head out, give yourself extra time and check road conditions first.

"Just try to be careful. Slow down. Be patient with the people, because there's a lot of accidents," Loaisiga said.

"No matter if you have all-wheel-drive or 4x4, you can still get in a wreck," Romero added.
