After Humboldt County Commissioners approved the creation of a full-time Victim Services Coordinator and Facility Dog handler position within the Humboldt County District Attorney's Office, Charlie has joined the team.
Charlie is a two-year-old Goldendoodle. He'll provide comfort and emotional support to child victims, child witnesses and others who have experienced trauma.Â
Charlie was provided through 4E Healing Hearts, a non-profit whose mission is to "heal hearts and change lives through the power of a dog." He's undergone special training to remain calm, attentive and responsive in high stress environments.Â
Humboldt County says his role is simple but powerful-to provide a reassuring presence for children and others facing difficult moments in the justice system.Â
The Offenhauser Foundation has donated more than $3,000 to cover Charlie's pet insurance, food, equipment, and other care during his first year of service.Â
