A convicted drug trafficker has been sentenced to 20 years in prison, with eligibility for parole after eight years.
Isaac Alvarez-Rojas was arrested last December after a narcotics and trafficking investigation by the Regional Narcotics Unit.
During a traffic stop, a police K9 alerted officers to drugs, according to a release from the Washoe County District Attorney’s Office.
A search of the car by Reno Police and the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office found cocaine.
An additional search of Alvarez-Rojas’ apartment found more than 2,142 grams of methamphetamine equaling 10,713 doses, 22 grams of heroin equaling 220 doses, several cell phones, a BB gun styled like a handgun, and more than $2,550.
Alvarez-Rojas was charged with, and pled guilty to, Trafficking in a Controlled Substance.
During sentencing, the prosecution pointed out that police found metal trays with methamphetamine residue, numerous cell phones, and numerous money wire receipts to Mexico in the defendant’s apartment, which demonstrated that he was deeply involved in the illegal drug trafficking trade.
