The Douglas County School Board moved one step closer to consolidating elementary schools and adding traffic cameras to school buses on Tuesday.
At a meeting, the board voted unanimously to consider the consolidation of two elementary schools to help close their budget gap.
The district said it will be notifying families at C.C. Menenly Elementary School and Scarcelli Elementary School that they are considering the move.
The board will also have to report to the Department of Taxation this month to see if they are on track to reduce their budget deficit.
In another unanimous vote earlier at the same meeting, the board approved establishing a framework for installing stop arm traffic cameras on school buses.
The stop arm would be able to record when drivers go past the school bus when it's stopped and be able to record the date, time, location, license plate number, and what violation the car is committing.
