Over the weekend, notable Nevadan Dr. Tyrus "Ty" Cobb - known largely for his work with Ronald Reagan - passed away.
In a statement on X, University of Nevada, Reno President Brian Sandoval described Cobb as, "a remarkable and influential Nevadan, whose professional life intersected with a time of great change in our world."
Dr. Cobb spent 25 years as an officer in the United States Army, worked as a professor at West Point military academy, and played multiple roles within the Ronald Reagan administration - as Special Assistant for National Security Affairs, and as the Executive Secretary during President Reagan's two summits with then-Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev in the eighties.
More locally, Ty served as the head of the National Security Forum of Northern Nevada and the Northern Nevada Network.
At 2 News Nevada, Dr. Cobb was a go-to for political commentary; he was a powerful local voice with a wealth of knowledge on national and world politics.
Dr. Cobb was born in Reno and graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno; and was named a Distinguished Nevadan in 2017.
