A driver on U.S. 50 crashed while allegedly trying to speed away from a CHP officer.
It's happened just before 5:30 a.m. August 4 on U.S. 50, just west of Echo Summit.
CHP officer Tackitt was driving behind a Mercedes C63 AMG sedan when he noticed the sedan was pulling away from him at an estimated speed of 85 miles per hour.
Officer Tackitt radioed CHP officer Burke to position himself on U.S. 50 at Gunmount as the driver was headed that way.
When the Mercedes passed officer Burke, the officer got behind the Mercedes and activated lights and siren.
The Mercedes then turned right onto southbound SR 89 with both officers following.
The officers lost sight of the Mercedes but later found the car crashed near Portal Drive.
The driver and two passengers then ran away from the scene on foot. All three were eventually apprehended and arrested.
The passengers each had felony no-bail warrants. The driver had no criminal record but now faces charges to include felony evading, felony hit and run causing injuries, reckless driving causing injury, and resisting arrest, among others.
