A man injured in a three-car crash earlier this month, at the intersection of USA Parkway and the Interstate 80 eastbound Exit 32 off-ramp, has died from his injuries.
The crash happened on Saturday, July 11, at about 1:53 p.m. when troopers responded to the intersection of USA Parkway and the I-80 eastbound Exit 32 off-ramp on the report of a multi-vehicle crash.
Investigators said a gold Nissan Murano was traveling eastbound on the Exit 32 off-ramp toward USA Parkway in the left travel lane and was approaching a stop sign. A black Ram 1500 was traveling northbound on USA Parkway in the right travel lane, while a red Kenworth semi-truck with a trailer was traveling northbound in the right turn lane.
According to the preliminary investigation, the Nissan failed to stop at the stop sign and entered the intersection into the path of the Ram. The right rear of the Nissan struck the front of the Ram before the Nissan rotated, continued across the intersection, and struck the Kenworth. The Nissan and the semi-truck came to rest in the right turn lane, while the Ram came to a controlled stop in the right travel lane of USA Parkway.
The Nissan's driver, 72-year-old Thomas Clay Wilson, of Sparks, was taken to a local hospital after the crash. He remained hospitalized and died from his injuries on July 18.
The drivers of the Ram and the Kenworth reported no injuries at the scene.
Investigators said speed and impairment are not suspected factors in the crash. The Division's Major Incident Reconstruction Team is investigating.
