Shared scooters are making their way back onto the streets of South Lake Tahoe as the city begins another season with a familiar transportation option.
Lime, a global provider of shared electric vehicles, has returned to South Lake Tahoe for the 2026 season with its fleet of Gen4 e-scooters. The company is working with the city to offer what it describes as a safe, affordable and lower-carbon way for people to get around.
The rollout began Friday, with Lime starting to scale up its fleet. The company says it plans to bring in nearly 500 scooters as the season gets underway.
“South Lake Tahoe has embraced shared micromobility, and we’re excited to return for another season with a continued focus on safety, responsible riding, and proper parking. Our Gen-4 e-scooters offer a convenient, low-carbon way to get around the city. Whether connecting to transit, running errands, or exploring South Lake Tahoe’s natural beauty outside of the confines of a car, Lime is thrilled to be back on the streets while helping support the city’s broader mobility and climate goals,” said Monica DiLullo, Senior Regional Lead of Government Relations for Lime.
Along with the return, Lime is again highlighting rules for riders. Tandem riding is not allowed, and riders must be 18 or older to use the scooters. The company says it shares those rules through its app, emails and stickers placed on the scooters.
Riders are also encouraged to wear a helmet, follow traffic signals, use bike lanes when available, avoid sidewalks, yield to pedestrians and park in a way that keeps walkways clear.
City leaders and the company say responsible riding will help keep streets accessible for both residents and visitors as activity picks up heading into the warmer months.
