Vocational Summer Camp VR Nevada

Free summer camps are giving young people across Nevada a chance to build skills, explore careers, and take steps toward independence.

The Nevada Department of Employment, Training, and Rehabilitation Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation is offering pre-employment summer day camps designed to help students with disabilities transition from high school to post-secondary education or employment.

This year, 29 week-long camps will be offered for students ages 14 to 21, or 22 under state guidelines. Camps run Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. throughout June, July, and August.

Locations include Reno, Sparks, Carson City, Dayton, Minden, Fernley, Silver Springs, Winnemucca, Yerington, Elko, Ely, and several locations in Southern Nevada.

“These free camps give Nevada students with disabilities the tools and support they need to take meaningful steps toward independence,” said Drazen Elez, Rehabilitation Division Administrator. “Through hands-on experiences and real-world exposure, students are building confidence and discovering new pathways to their future.”

The camps are designed to be interactive, giving students a chance to explore career paths, learn about education options, and build skills needed for future jobs. Along with general daytime and overnight camps, specialty camps are available for students who are deaf or hard of hearing, autistic, or blind or visually impaired.

Through partnerships with approved providers, each camp is built around five core services, including job exploration, post-secondary counseling, workplace readiness training, self-advocacy, and work-based learning experiences.

Registration for each camp closes one month before it begins. Students can attend one camp per fiscal year from June through July. Participation is open to students whether or not they are current clients of vocational rehabilitation services.
