The Washoe County Sheriff's Office says an inmate in custody at the Washoe County Detention Facility was found unresponsive in their cell.

It happened just after 11:30 a.m. Saturday. No other inmates were in the cell.

Deputies and on-site medical personnel began life-saving measures after the inmate was found and REMSA was dispatched to the facility.

Despite these efforts, the inmate was pronounced dead.

Washoe County Sheriff’s Office detectives and the Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct investigations into the death.

The inmate’s identity will not be released until a next of kin is notified.

The cause of death remains under investigation, but the initial investigation found no evidence of foul play or other criminal activity.
