Six Placer County-managed parking lots in Kings Beach will temporarily close Tuesday morning as crews complete sealant and restriping work. The lots are expected to reopen Friday morning.
Drivers must remove vehicles from the parking lots before 7 a.m. Tuesday, August 4. Vehicles left in the lots after the closures begin may interfere with the maintenance work and could be towed.
The closure will affect the West End, Rainbow, Brook Avenue, Christmas Tree, Minnow Avenue and Salmon Avenue lots. Visitors are encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra time to find parking or consider alternative transportation options while the work is underway.
The work is scheduled during midweek because the sealant requires hot, dry conditions to properly cure. Placer County said crews selected those days to reduce the impact on the community.
“Reinvesting in our community through transportation improvements, including our parking infrastructure, is an important part of our work to ensure we’re meeting the needs of residents and visitors in the region,” said Placer County Public Works Deputy Director Jared Deck. “We recognize that closing all six lots for several days will create a temporary inconvenience, but we are confined by a limited construction season and the need to work in warm weather to ensure adequate curing for the sealant. We want to make sure the lots remain in good condition for many years to come, so maintenance is essential.”
The county will place informational flyers at each parking lot before the closure and install barricades early Tuesday morning to prevent vehicles from entering. Discussions with local businesses are also underway to help reduce the impact of the closures.
The maintenance project comes as Placer County continues implementing its North Lake Tahoe Parking Management Program, which is designed to manage the community’s existing parking supply while improving access to businesses, recreational areas and other destinations.
This summer, the program added two new paid parking lots and expanded transportation options in Kings Beach with a dedicated TART Connect vehicle. The on-demand TART Connect van has served the downtown Kings Beach area since July 1 and provides another option for residents, employees and visitors traveling throughout the community.
