Dark Prison Haunted House starts its season at the historic Nevada State Prison.
It will be open for 17 nights this spooky season with all-new sets, characters, and props.
"It is quite unique to be in a location like this that has a lot of history in and of itself but also has had paranormal tours where haunted things have happened. so really, we're just elevating the overall experience here," says Guinivere Clark, Vice President of Operations for Dark Prison Haunted House.
If the name sounds similar to the Dark Corner Haunted House, that's because it's the same event.
It relocated to Carson City from the National Bowling Stadium starting this year.
Co-owner Holly Spahr says the event got started in 2022 after she stumbled upon someone's haunted garage.
"My partner, Dustin Ring, had a home haunt for over a decade in his garage," she says. "When we met, I was like, 'wow, this is so professional. I think we can take this to the next level.'"
A lot of work goes into hosting three haunted houses at one venue, including makeup for the scare actors.
Makeup director Matthew Hawkins says he has three different makeup looks, ranging from quick and easy to fully detailed. He spreads them out so everyone on his team does an even amount of work.
He also says it's so that "as you go throughout the haunt, you see kind of an even scatter of each design of makeup that will also kind of tell a story."
If you want to experience Dark Prison Haunted House for yourself, it will be open every Thursday through Saturday until November 1st, as well as select Sundays in October.
