Northern Nevada Public Health (NNPH) and the Washoe County School District (WCSD) are teaming up to help schools become more green.
The Lawn & Garden Exchange Project is a new collaboration between the organizations to help schools in the area move from gas-powered lawn and gardening equipment to electric versions.
The NNPH Air Quality Management Division donated $250,000 to the school district, which allowed them to swap out the following implements with electric alternatives, including:
- 72 lawnmowers
- 63 backpack blowers
- 41 string trimmers
- 38 handheld blowers
- 29 edgers
- 4 hedge trimmers
- 2 chainsaws
Organizers say this equates to roughly 25% of WCSD's gas-powered landscaping equipment.
NNPH chose this particular project to give back funds that were collected via DMV smog check fees.
